Kick Pannel Speaker Pods

Right side of kickpannel and Kicker R6 set

Pros:

  • Better soundstage.
  • Speakers are facing you, which makes the music more clear. Automobile manufacturers seem to think that us humans have ears in our legs...
  • Controllable air space for your driver.

Cons:

  • Loss of floor space.
  • Complex construction.

Cost:

  • This project will take about 30 to 40 hours to construct a pair of pods and will cost about $100 in materials.

Materials:

  • Fiberglass resin and hardener
  • Fiberglass matte
  • Mixing container (Warning: cheap plastic cups do work, but when the resin starts to cure, it will eat right through the cup.)
  • 1/2" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)
  • 2" masking tape
  • Rubber gloves (You can get a box at your local drug store.)
  • Bondo and hardener
  • 60-400 grit sandpaper
  • Any material that is 100% nylon and stretchy (I used spandex on this project. It's easy to use, but did sag a little when I applied the resin.)
  • Spray adhesive

Tools:

  • Disposable paint brushes
  • Tin Snips
  • Leather gloves (good for when you are cutting the excess fiberglass off of the mold.)
  • Jig saw or sawsall
