Fiberglass/MDF Sub Box

Step-buy-step process

Pros:

  • Better looks...need i say more?

Cons:

  • Complex construction.
  • Quite a bit more expensive than an ordinary MDF box.

Cost:

  • 3/4" MDF (one 4x8 sheet): $21
  • Fiberglass Materials (resin and matte): $50 to $75
  • 1/2" MDF (2 - 1/4 sheets for rings) $10 to $12
  • Misc (sandpaper, bondo, masking tape...) $30

Materials:

  • Fiberglass resin and hardener
  • Fiberglass matte
  • Mixing container (cheep plastic measuring cup works)
  • 1/2" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)
  • 2" masking tape
  • Rubber gloves (You can get a box at your local drug store.)
  • Bondo and hardener
  • 60-400 grit sandpaper
  • Any material that is nylon and stretchy (I used spandex)
  • Spray adhesive

Tools:

  • Disposable paint brushes
  • Tin Snips
  • Leather gloves (good for when you are cutting the excess fiberglass off of the mold.)
  • Jig saw or sawsall
